A 'secret' part of the great wall, outside of Beijing lie opportunities to hike parts of the Great Wall not full of tourists.

Jiangshanling at Dawn, the great wall. It is a 3 hour ride from Beijing city centre, but very nice.

Around 400 meters height from the starting point.

Not much people on there because of the hot weather in the middle of July.

Badaling Great Wall. Not recommended to climb it in the winter. Extremely cold and windy.

Don't think the Great Wall is just a military structure. Some part of it is artistically and delicately crafted.

As you can see, the climb is very steep but there is a sense of fulfillment once you get to the top.

When you visit China don't skip this place.

A visit to Beijing is not complete without a tour of the Great Wall. This is the more popular Badaling side of the Wall.

The Great Wall is very Great. It is a must-see for the tourist.

It's easy to go up those stairs, but it's really hard to get down. Just be careful.

The entrance to the great wall about 60 km outside of Beijing.

Some of the armor and weapons you can hold and have your picture taken. A nice souvenir to remember your trip.

All repairs to the wall are done by hand to maintain the original design.

This is the first building you come to walking on the wall, the third level window.

The great wall is about 3000 years old. There are tourist areas like this in many major cities.

THere were no hand rails at this level which made the walk rather treacherous. The mountains seemed to go on forever.

You have to climb the wall for almost two hours to get to this spot, but the view is great.

What an amazing feat to build this wall. Only in China with millions of people could this have been done.

Not many people walked this far up. In the summer perhaps more would try.

This was the third major building on the wall. What an incredible view from here.

Apparently it only snows 3 or 4 days of the year in Beijing, this was one of those days.

Looking back dow the wall, this was the 2nd major building on the wall. The steps are worn down, rounded, so be careful.

The walk back down to the entrance was more difficult than walking up. Summer time would be easier.

Here a couple has made it to the summit with me and look out at the wall and the mountains, alone no one else nearby.

What a great location for photagraphers. I loved this picture.

You can have a picture taken here with this statue and wearing some authentic Chinese armor.

This is at the beginning of the walk up the steps of the Great Wall. Very slippery with the ice and snow.

The Great Wall of China is a place you have to visit. But be prepared for a lot of climbing.
