Barcelona is stretched out on a plain next to the Mediterranean sea in the very north of the Spanish coast, bordering France, between two rivers and two mountains. The result is scenic surroundings. Barcelona is the most cosmopolitan and economically active city in Spain, and has always managed to stay ahead or abreast of the latest international trends. It is steeped in history, as witnessed by the grandeur of its architecture. The excellent public transportation system gives easy access to the entire city. Guided tours of the city and its sights are available with English speaking guides. A visitor might choose to stay in the old town, within walking distance of centuries old, architecturally splendid buildings, or the spacious Eixample district with its shopping and fine restaurants.

Barcelona has over 50 museums and galleries, many parks and a wide selection of waterfront attractions. Sports enthusiasts will find plenty of action. Soccer, the national sport, is almost a religion here. Gaudí's fairy tale-like buildings and the 200 foot statue of Christopher Columbus pointing out to sea are two examples of attractions in Barcelona. The tradition of dance halls also lives on in the beautiful city of Barcelona.

We met a couple of friends in Barcelona for a long weekend. We came from the USA and them from Britain. My wife found an apartment rental from www.gobcn.com for about $30 each couple a night in the "theatre district" - West of the Ramblas by about 0.5 miles. We we not in a touristy area, which was nice as the Ramblas can be a bit too much. However, a few neighborhoods around us were not safe to walk in at night. Plenty to do and see for a few days, although the pick-pockets were very brave Read Full Review

Barcelona is a wonderful city! It offers something for everyone. What more could you ask for in a city - culture, history, beach, tourist sites, shopping, food, and so much more. I found the city to be easy to navigate. While you could spend your day walking all over the city, the metro works well and provides quick service to many of the must-see sights. As always, be mindful of your purses and wallets on the metro - pick pocketers are present. See Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell! Read Full Review

Barcelona is a wonderufl city with great museums, lots of history, culture, delicious food, first class shopping and plenty to do.But don't kid yourself, this is a big, crowded, loud, with ever speeding fast moving scooters, mopeds and motorocycles city.We were almost robbed of our passport NOT our money. We didn't find many of the natives friendly, helpful or willing to try to speak to us in either English or Spanish which made restaurants, directions and general existence very difficult.
