The most popular accommodations here are private villas. The largest hotel has just one hundred rooms. St. Barts has just one town, its capital, the port village of Gustavia. There are over one hundred restaurants here, and the meals are pricey, but top notch. A more economical option is to grab a picnic meal from a take out deli, and dine in the fresh air on one of St. Barts’ fourteen beaches. Shoppers will enjoy the opportunity to purchase items such as fine cigars, diamond jewelry, island crafts and haute couture. Nightlife here mostly centers around fine dining, but a number of new clubs offer a range of options, from an elegant lounge atmosphere to electric disco excitement. The anachronistic fishing port village of Corosol has stubbornly held on to many 17th century French customs. Here, white-bonneted women weave baskets for sale to the public.
