Little Cayman is indeed little, as is its population – less than 200 permanent inhabitants, most of whom are employed serving tourists. Want a beach all to yourself? Want to swim in your own private lagoon? It’s possible here.
Anglers seeking a bountiful catch can drop a hook in the Caribbean, or throw a line in Tarpon Pond for some brackish inland action. Divers would be wise to heed the words of Jacques Cousteau – he said that the waters around Little Cayman are among earth’s best dive spots. There are more than 50 mooring marked dive spots around Little Cayman. Bloody Bay Marine Park has a massive coral wall and billowing schools of tropical fish. Exotic birds are among the island’s most revered inhabitants. The Red Footed Booby has its largest Caribbean breeding colony here. The Booby live in protected tranquility, along with frigate birds and herons, in the 203 acre Booby Pond Nature Reserve. Guided nature tours of the island are available. As one might imagine, this isn’t the place for riotous nightlife, but in the evenings a few drinks and laughs can be found at a number of local bars that also serve dinner. Small as the island is, it does have several hotels, so one can relax in Little Cayman’s blessed seclusion 24/7.
