With a population of over a billion, and an area of land over one third the size of the United States, India is a vast nation with a myriad of places and people to experience. Its terrain includes wilderness, mountain ranges, lake country, rainforests, beaches, foothills and rivers. It borders three oceans, the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.
At the southern tip of India, Hindus bathe in the waters off of Cape Comorin, believing that the waters of three separate oceans are the perfect potion for dissolving one’s prior sins. Mountain trekking is a major draw here. A trip though the Himalayan region of Ladakh rewards trekkers with surreal landscapes and a bevy of Buddhist monasteries. A desert safari offers another option; camels carry visitors to the desert ruins of the Rapjut. The iconic Taj Mahal is an epic tribute to the inspiring power of love. One can participate in authentically Indian experiences like sleeping in a Marahajah’s castle, or receiving the blessing of an elephant at Thirupparankundram Temple, or letting your light shine by setting a candle adrift on a banana leaf down the sacred Ganges River at Rishikesh. A trip to Goa’s notorious party beaches would end one’s trip on a high note.
