The United States of America is home to some three hundred million citizens, living across 3.6 million square miles which stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific, plus Alaska to the north and the Hawaiian Islands out in the Pacific ocean. Its population sprawls across a vast variety of landscapes, from the chilly climes of Main, to the sultry bayous of Louisiana, to the Arizona Desert, to the imposing majesty of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. The US is a relatively young country, but artifacts dating back as far as 12,000 B.C. attest to humankind’s early presence here, and Anasazi ruins present a glimpse of life in the year 900. A.D.

Today the US is home to people whose descendents came from all over the earth. Its reputation as a ‘land of opportunity’ draws immigrants seeking more prosperous lives. The country exhibits both extremes of the economic scale. Three hundred and seventy-four billionaires reportedly lived here in 2005, while 37 million people lived in poverty. The United States is a vibrant, varied land that offers a vast milieu of attractions and activities.
