My wife found an apartment rental from www.gobcn.com for about $30 each couple a night in the "theatre district" - West of the Ramblas by about 0.5 miles. We we not in a touristy area, which was nice as the Ramblas can be a bit too much. However, a few neighborhoods around us were not safe to walk in at night. Barcelona is a wonderful city! It offers something for everyone. What more could you ask for in a city - culture, history, beach, tourist sites, shopping, food, and so much more. I found the city to be easy to navigate. While you could spend your day walking all over the city, the metro works well and provides quick service to many of the must-see sights. As always, be mindful of your purses and wallets on the metro - pick pocketers are present. See Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell! Read Full Review

Barcelona is a wonderufl city with great museums, lots of history, culture, delicious food, first class shopping and plenty to do.But don't kid yourself, this is a big, crowded, loud, with ever speeding fast moving scooters, mopeds and motorocycles city.We were almost robbed of our passport NOT our money. We didn't find many of the natives friendly, helpful or willing to try to speak to us in either English or Spanish which made restaurants, directions and general existence very difficult.
